Final Day of our Campaign for Black Farming
Make a Critical Investment in Black Farming Before Our Campaign Ends
A joint message from our partners at Oregon Food Bank:
Dear Community,
Today is the last day of our campaign calling for support of Black Oregon Land Trust (BOLT).
If you’ve seen our previous messages, you know that only 0.1% of Oregon farmland is Black-owned, but with ⅔ or Oregon’s farmland changing hands in the next 10 years, we have a chance to change that.
BOLT builds community power, making land access possible for Black farmers by securing and retaining affordable farmland and helping them establish their farms.
Your gift, made directly to BOLT today, will help to secure more land for farmers, and provide education and resources to invest in Black farming families and their communities. Please donate today, before our campaign ends!
Black-owned farmland is so rare because Black farmers have faced more than a century of systemic discrimination, causing a steady and significant loss of land over the years. This is a root cause of hunger that restricts food access for many communities.
Thanks to BOLT, many farmers are rediscovering their roots in farming and their ability to secure food resources for their communities.
Mia is one of those people. Her typical morning includes tending her two children, walking the land, checking on the beehives, and milking the beloved goat Princess.
For her, having secure and affordable land access is creating a new generational legacy.
“Stewarding this land with my family has been the greatest opportunity I’ve ever experienced,” Mia says. “Being able to raise our children knowing that they will learn how to tend and trust the earth, changes everything for me as a mother. It’s been such a leap into liberation to call this collectively Black owned land, our home and sanctuary – we are creating a powerful shift in what feeding our futures looks like.”
Please consider a donation directly to Black Oregon Land Trust (BOLT) to help farmers like Mia secure and preserve farmland for themselves and future generations.
Thank you so much for doing what you can! Your support is addressing hunger’s root causes and building resilient communities that never know hunger.
With warmth and appreciation,
